The small scale industries covering a wide spectrum of small, tiny and cottage sector occupies an important position in the planned development of Indian economy and plays a vital role in the overall economic and industrial development of the country. The small-scale sector has distinct advantage of low investment and high potential for employment generation in rural and semi-urban areas.
MSME-Development Institute, Bangalore is a field office under SIDO-Small Industries Development Organization,the Ministry of Micro,Small & Medium Enterprises, Govt. of India. SIDO is an apex body and a nodal agency for formulating, coordinating and monitoring the policies and development of small-scale industries in the country. The Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises), Ministry of Micro,Small & Medium Enterprises, heads the Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO), which is an apex body for formulating policies for the development of small scale industries in India.
SIDO plays a very fundamental role for strengthening the sector and furthering the national objectives. SIDO is an Apex/Nodal department and provides the link between Ministry/Department and field Organizations. It functions as an Agent of Change for small scale industries through policy initiatives, providing technology Centre training and facilities, schemes and incentives, information, techno and commercial and managerial consultancy services. A vast network of the field organizations and MSME DevelopmentĀ Institutes across the country operate according to the aims, objectives and guidelines laid down by SIDO.
